Panthers are Stanley Cup Champions

Defense wins championships

Florida 2 – Edmonton 1 (Finals Panthers 4-2)  Florida scored first, their penalty killers twice stopped the Oilers from scoring shorthanded, Panthers out hit and out blocked the Oilers as goaltender Bobrovsky allowed just one goal to get past him in Florida’s initial Cup championship.

The game was exciting all night long, one of the best Finals game sevens in NHL history, Florida may have scored first but Edmonton wasted no time tying the game a few minutes later setting the stage for an edge of your seat tension filled game and ending.

Hockey fans could not have asked for a better Stanley Cup, as announcers from both ABC and CBC were all without shame as they talked up 1942 and how awesome Edmonton’s comeback is/was as they cheered on the Oilers and backhanded complimented the Panthers during the game.

After game six the Panthers were underdogs everywhere except Sunrise, Florida and the diehard, brilliantly attired, emotional and loud Oilers fans did all they could to alter the game’s outcome with their enthusiastic cheering, but no amount of watch parties or Shania Twain singing could stop Florida from winning.

Buffalo Winter Awards

Playoff’s MVP  Captain Barkov earned the Selke Trophy as the heart & soul of the Panthers and it was his leadership and defensive play that helped bring the Stanley Cup to the Panthers.

Playoff’s Unsung Hero  Evan Rodrigues whose unexpected and timely assists and scoring helped his team to Stanley Cup victory.

Playoff’s Feel Good Story  Kyle Okposo who played for nearly two decades and struggled to give up leading his team, and fans to accept an opportunity to help a different team win a Stanley Cup.

Deja vu 1942

The two most exciting words in hockey, Game Seven

Edmonton 5 – Florida 1 en x2 (Finals tied 3-3)  The Oilers as well as every hockey fan knows that Edmonton is on the precipice of NHL history and the Panthers know what is required to avoid ignominy.

The overconfident Red Wings from over eight decades ago and the steady as she goes Panthers could not be any more different and Florida can utilize home crowd energy, channel the stress of avoiding a complete breakdown, and their Finals experience to capture game seven and the Cup.

Monday Night’s Matchup

Florida versus Edmonton (Finals tied 3-3)

Short-handed Victory

Edmonton Escapes Elimination

Edmonton 5 – Florida 3 en (Finals Panthers 3-2)  One can almost hear Edmonton fans chanting 1942 over and over as they inch closer to NHL history, and Florida needs to eliminate short-handed goals in order to prevail.

Another short-handed dagger with goaltender Bobrovsky playing subpar has the Oilers thinking they can win at home and then in game seven win it all, on the other hand just one more solid game from the Panthers brings the silver chalice to rest in Florida.

Game Six is going to be an exciting extravaganza because if Edmonton had Shania Twain performing outside Rogers Palace before game four in front of nearly 10,000 Oilers maniacs what will they have for Friday Night?

Edmonton 8 – Florida 1 (Finals Panthers 3-1)  In a lopsided affair the Edmonton Oilers found their scoring touch and not a moment too soon as the hometown hockey heroes gave their adoring crowds of fans everything they were expecting in this series, offense!

smiling, shouting, & selfies

Florida will have an epiphany that goaltender Bobrovsky is human after all that will assist their humility and overall reception to the drubbing they endured and to turn the loss into an inner drive to win the Stanley Cup in game five for a hometown celebration.
