FHL Update Nov 10th

Another Weekly High Score

Here along the Lake I was matched up with the league leading and undefeated asher1961-1 and came away with the weekly matchup victory and literally outscoring every team for the second week in a row.

Our league now has a three-way tie for first place overall 4-1, (all three teams in the West Division), and a two-way tie for first place in the East Division 3-2, so far there are five teams realistically playing for a playoff seeding.

Waiver Wire Transactions

From Sunday morning until this morning, I initially dropped the Lightning’s (C) Cirelli because he was getting hurt and slowly trending down, so I was able to add the Blackhawks (LW) Bertuzzi who has earned monster fantasy points in his last three games and now I have possible line-stacking with Chicago (C) Bedard.

Secondly, I dropped the Capitals (C) Protas who was trending down because he can go three games without earning decent points, he is still worth having on the watch list to bring him back on the roster if needed, which allowed me to pick up the Stars (C) Hintz who has come back from a disclosed injury and is trending up and averaging at least two fantasy points per game.

Finally, I dropped the Jets top blocker in (D) DeMelo, another watch list keeper, but I noticed the Knights (LW) Barbashev is trending up with his scoring and now I can line-stack with (RW) Marner which can produce more points than a single blocking defenseman can earn most of the time.

Current Watch List

To begin with, (LW) Burakovsky is averaging 2 points per game, takes a decent number of shots on goal, has 14 points in 15 games with 7 goals and 7 assists, has a positive plus/minus, and if I did not already have two Blackhawks on my roster he definitely would be on my team.

Even though I have two Knights on my roster (LW) Olofsson makes the list because he currently is on his team’s top power play unit and has more shots on net than most players in the league, although he has not scored as many fantasy points (29) as the elite players, none the less this 30-year-old is having a solid season in Nevada, and I have liked his play since he was with the Sabres.

These two examples are to highlight the importance of keeping a fresh watch list in case of IRs and DTDs, as well as other roster problems, we are allowed to make seven moves each weekly matchup, so take advantage and if you have any, drop your nonproductive point producers to bring on some productive players off your watch list and onto the roster.

  1. Congratulations Buffalo Winter on your success.

I am also maintaining an active Watch List and it has particular importance when I drop a player based on their schedule (and sometimes performance) but am interested in picking the player up again when their team has games in the schedule.

When a team is not scheduled to play for up to three days in a row, I get nervous keeping a player on the team and would rather pick up someone else who can produce points for me.

It is a risk to drop a player in that he may be picked up by another team manager, however, there are a number of teams in my ESPN fantasy hockey leagues which have team managers who have been inactive (on any given day on any given team their teams have players wasted on the bench).

In my roto league, I was first for a period but am currently 5th in the standings.

I have already decided that next season I will definitely not enter a roto league because the scoring system is not transparent.

I have learned that I much prefer the H2H format.

In my H2H league, I was victorious over my opponent (119.6 vs his 113.0 points). On the last night of hockey, I actually honestly thought he would surpass me by the end of the evening as he had Nathan Mackinnon (I believe he had 2G and 2A).

I have a strategy that seems to be working for me. While I have a few high performing players who are producing goals and assists, I also have intentionally picked up players who are giving me frequent points, albeit lower than goals and assists, for hits and blocks. This has paid off. In fact there is one player I just dropped (Min F Yakov Trenin 76 hits) , due to scheduling, whom I will pick up again in a few days if he’s still available (got him on my watch list).

I made my first ever trade proposal in my H2H league: Macklin Celebrini, SJ C from Matthew ‘s Magnificent Team to My team Send Quinn Hughes, Van D. Matthew’s Magnificent Team has not yet responded and I doubt he will agree to it. My player Quinn Hughes has been disappointing so far yet he is a high %ROS player.

Apologies for my lengthy post. It is Remembrance Day today in Canada. I have another 32 thoughts to post on the hockey thread but will wait another day.

    1. What a substantive response, thank you so much.

Your post reads as if you really know what you are doing with the watch list and transactions, great job.

I know what you mean about not being sure if you will win because your opponent might surpass you or your players will not produce enough points, especially if it is the last day and just four or five games to earn points with that night.

I hope your trade works out, I was offered a trade early in the season and turned it down, and how the two players are producing I am grateful that I did not agree to the trade.

Remembrance Day, Armistice Day, the end of the War to end all wars, but as it became WWI, we know it was not, sadly, and so many lives lost, this year it falls on our Veteran’s Day where banks and schools had the day off, lol.

I look forward to checking out your posting of the 32 thoughts.

      1. Thank you for your own fulsome reply and for commiserating with me when I was sharing how I feel.

It ended up that my trade proposal went unanswered. I guess it is what it is and I can’t perseverate on it and other disappointments.

All the best tonight against the Colorado Avalanche. They are doing exceptionally well. Wish I had them.
