ESPN FHL Transactions

Initial waiver wire action

Here along the Lake ESPN FHL begins Tuesday and I have already completed three moves, both goalies were dropped to make room for more productive point producing players and dropping one skater to make room for a player that can contribute on Tuesday.

Observing my weekly matchup opponent to open the season, “Mike’s Magnificent Team” has two players that are “O” out with injury, he could place one of these players on “IR” injured reserve without losing him and select a player that can produce.

The other injured skater can be placed on the bench or if one of two skaters will be out with injury for any length of time a decision has to be made if they are worth hanging on to, better to drop and gain a productive point producer then waste a roster spot in hopes the player will return quickly.

A regular feature will be the daily ESPN FHL update with observations and recommendations as well as using my team as an example throughout the season.

Each ESPN FHL season bears out one concrete fact, the team managers that do not make any waiver wire transactions all season to improve their team ultimately end up one of the bottom four teams in the league.

  1. FYI – I have drafted my own team in the ESPN FHL. I am participating in a 10-team roto league.

I have Woll and Swayman as goalies but will take your advice and drop them for high performing forwards or defensemen.

I have already made two transactions and another team manager made a trade proposal to me.

He wanted me to trade Connor McDavid, C (Edm) for Dmitri Voronkov, LW (CBJ).

    Huh?

I answered him back “Seriously” and declined the trade.

On an earlier article here on your website, I shared the link to my team (I hope it works). Please let me know if it works.

    1. *”Seriously?”

Also, I meant to mention that I make it a habit of updating my rosters on a weekly basis then day-by-day check each roster to make any last minute revisions based on injuries, etc.

    2. My apologies, I was not aware that you were drafting into a rotisserie style league, I should have been more specific in an earlier article on drafting and team management, now I am afraid I may have damaged your team with my advice. Good news is it is still not too late to draft another team in the H2H leagues.

      1. My bad, I should have known. I can try to get one or both of my goalies back and before it’s too late draft another team in one of the H2H leagues.

      2. Buffalo Winter, I just completed the draft in another league, this one being H2H.

I have a few repeats from my other team in the roto league and I did manage to acquire William Nylander which was my hope after knowing I was far down the ladder to pick.

I waited until the very end to draft goalies as I knew that I would be dropping them for other players once the draft was over.

Here is my new 2nd fantasy team (I might regret playing in two separate leagues but we’ll see):

      3. OUTSTANDING!! I am so glad to read this, two teams is a handful to manage.

I am looking at your team, and I like what I see, some very good positive point producers.

There a couple of moves you should accomplish before tomorrow, if it is okay with you, I would like to recommend (I’m sure you already knew this) putting Marchand and Toews into the lineup and off the bench, and transfer Tkachuk to IR (injured reserve) which will afford you another selection to acquire one more player.

And I am curious to see who you select after dropping the goalies, did you do that already?

Thank you P_g for sharing here.

      4. Thanks very much. 🙂

Earlier today I had moved Marchand and Toews into the lineup but in all honesty (and I thank you profusely for bringing to this to my attention) I did not think to transfer Tkachuk to Injured reserve (now done) and in fact I had to look up how to transfer a player to IR because I have never done it before participating in ESPN fantasy hockey.

Woll is now moved to IR.

With respect to goalies, I had conditionally dropped G Ullmark to Waivers and conditionally added LW Eeli Tolvanen from Waivers.

Another move to share with you is that I conditionally dropped D Shayne Gostisbehere and conditionally added D Radko Gudas.

Both moves will process on the morning of Oct. 8.

I hope this all reads properly.

        Thanks again.
