Stanley Cup Champions…again

Here along the Lake A bit boring and a bit disappointing but this year’s Stanley Cup Finals have come and gone with nothing different, same two teams played for the Cup and the same team won as last year.

Panthers 5 – Oilers 1 (en x2) (SCF 4-2 Florida) Referees Rooney and Hebert made sure no Edmonton power play would save the day as neither team had the man advantage save one pair of offsetting penalties halfway through the first period, and of course a game misconduct with a couple minutes left in the game.

Edmonton took 20 SOG over the first two periods and found themselves down 3-0 heading into the third period, then the Oilers with six and half minutes remaining in the game and series pull the goalie and promptly get scored on, not once but twice into the empty net.

And just to avoid the shutout Edmonton pops one in just 20 seconds or so after the second empty net goal against to make the final a 5-1 score, Florida played well and had the better goaltender, they deserved to win.
Personal Note
Watching a player that arguably plays dirty be awarded the Conn Smyth Trophy, well that just adds to the overall disappointment, additionally I hope that the Cup engraver will get the names in proper order this year and not add some businessman’s name after the player’s names like last season.

It was a dud of a game. The Oilers were never able to get any traction, even after getting their one goal late in the third, and so Captain Connor McDavid’s disappointment after the game/series ended was not surprising and I wonder what his future holds.
The game misconduct handed to E. Kane was the right call in regular season play but in the sixth game of the Stanley Cup Final when there were few penalty minutes in the game and one team obviously has the upper hand and obviously would be declared the SC winner only minutes away added insult to injury, in my humble opinion.
I had a very busy day but did read tonight that the Stanley Cup was broken and dented by the Florida Panthers during the post-game celebration on the ice. I don’t know but assume that this is not unusual but still, it seems uncool that they would not take better care of the revered Stanley Cup while skating with it.
I wish someone had asked Panthers HC Paul Maurice why he deserves to be part of the on-ice celebration considering his earlier viewpoint that coaches and other bench members other than players do not belong on the ice shaking hands of the members of the opposing team. Wasn’t it supposed to be all about the players? What a hypocrite.
Thank you Buffalo Winter for your commentaries on the NHL Stanley Cup race and the other articles during this hockey season. I guess for me now it’s a wait and see game to know if RW Mitch Marner remains a Toronto Maple Leaf, or not.
That’s enough from me. Take care everyone.

The future for Captain McDavid is Edmonton, look how long it took Captain Ovechkin to earn his Cup.
I agree the game misconduct was not necessary but considering the referees, I am not surprised.
The Cup was dropped and dented, it was once lost on a train, all kind of weird things have happened to our revered Stanley Cup over the last century to be sure.
Yes, it appears HC Maurice is a hypocrite about hand shaking when it comes to the Stanley Cup itself.
As far as RW Marner is concerned…I would love to see him wearing a Sabres sweater.
Thank you for your kind compliments about my thoughts and articles on hockey, I so much appreciate that you read what I write, sincerely thank you P_g
