Tuesday Trivia November 19th

Last week’s answer: C Skrudland two-time Stanley Cup champion with Montreal and Dallas did not wear #99, wore numbers 10, 20, and 39.

Everyone should know that Wayne Gretzky wore number 99, but most do not know that LW Dudley wore number 99 with Winnipeg during the 80-81 NHL season, and RW Wilf Paiement wore number 99 with Toronto during the 79-82 NHL seasons.

In keeping with sweater numbers this week’s question is Which Buffalo Sabres goaltender wore number #00 before the NHL decided to disallow double zero on NHL sweaters?

A) Tom Barrasso

B) Darren Puppa

C) Roger Crozier

D) Martin Biron

12 Games 24 Teams

Sabres 3 (so) – Flames 2  Another quick start, another power play goal, another solid game from UPL (.923% save percentage) and the temperature on HC Ruff’s seat has cooled considerably during this three game winning streak.

Jets 4 – Stars 1  Winnipeg has become the only team in NHL history to win 14 of their first 15 games as the Jets kept Central Division rival Dallas off the scoresheet until there were only 82 seconds remaining in the game.

Panthers 4 (so) – Flyers 3  Metropolitan Division basement dweller Philadelphia skated into the defending Stanley Cup champions home ice forcing Florida to the fifth round of the shootout nearly earning both points.

Senators 3 (ot) – Bruins 2  In the heralded matchup between former goaltender duo Ullmark and Swayman, Ottawa scored twice on 20 SOG whereas Boston scored twice on only 8 SOG, Boston did not take a single shot on net the entire third period, one during overtime and 16 SOG total for the game.

Maple Leafs 4 – Canadiens 1  Toronto owned Montreal this past Saturday’s HNIC as RW Nylander went coast to coast to score for a 2-0 lead and RW Marner scored shorthanded as the Maple Leafs scored three times in the second period and another power play in the third for the 4-1 victory.

Rangers 4 (en) – Red Wings 0  The Rangers are rolling and the Red Wings are reeling, Detroit took 19 SOG just in the second period alone and 37 SOG for the game but could not score because New York’s backup netminder G Quick was perfect.

Capitals 8 – Blues 1  St. Louis hosted Washington and LW Ovechkin and the Capitals graciously pounded the Blues into submission during a five goal deluge in the third period.

Devils 4 (6on5) (ot) – Islanders 3  C Hughes scores on the power play, scores even strength (ot), and earns an assist, as a team New Jersey pulled their goaltender and scored with the extra attacker to force overtime where C Hughes scores on the Devils only shot for the win.

Predators 4 (en) – Hockey Club 0  With the win Nashville elevates themselves from the Western Conference basement while Utah maintains a .500% overall winning percentage.

Avalanche 6 (en) – Hurricanes 4  Colorado scored five times, three even strength goals then one apiece shorthanded and on the power play from 18 SOG during the second period to end Carolina’s momentum.

Kings 5 (en) – Blue Jackets 2  Both teams score in the first 49 seconds of the third period Los Angeles shorthanded and Columbus on the power play for a 3-2 score but after the Kings notched their fourth goal the Blue Jackets pulled their goaltender and eventually were scored upon for the loss.

Oilers 7 – Canucks 3  Benching your goaltender by the seventh goal seems…too late as Edmonton on the road decisively beats their Pacific Division rival Vancouver to pull themselves up to a .500% overall winning percentage.

Sabres Score Six

Buffalo Barrage Beats Blueshirts

Sabres 6 – Rangers 1  Captain Dahlin scored at the :26 second mark of the first period to give Buffalo a quick early 1-0 lead on the road versus a very good Rangers team.

Then a four goal onslaught in the second period chased New York’s number one netminder to the bench and Buffalo confidently took a 5-0 lead into the third period.

The “Bread Man”  aka Artemi Panarin earned his 800th point on the Rangers lone goal, a loopy deflection that went up and over and into the net less than five minutes into the third period which was too little too late for New York.

A tough break for JJ Peterka having his goal called back on an offsides coach’s challenge but his assist along with all the other forwards recorded a point last night, the second time only and not since 30 seasons ago did Buffalo accomplish this offensive feat.

Buffalo did not sit back but continued to pressure and scored on the power play with eight minutes left in the game for the 6-1 victorious final.

Tomorrow afternoon at one o’clock the Sabres host the Calgary Flames downtown here along the Lake.
