Detroit Defeats Buffalo

Swiss cheese with your wings

Sabres 2 – Red Wings 5 There were three starters on the Sabres last night, and Buffalo scored both of their goals on the power play, but that does not cover the fact the Ruff’s goaltender Georgiev is not an NHL starter, if he was Colorado would have kept him.

(C) Ostlund buries one on the power play to tie the game at one apiece

I am literally at a loss for words why Ruff thinks this player has something to prove, because after eight years we know (G) Georgiev cannot keep his GAA below three and after playing for the Rangers, Avalanche, and one season with the Sharks, he has impressed no one, except Ruff.

A bad pass from (G) Georgiev to his defenseman on the power play allows a Detroit shorty

(G) Devon Levi is the Sabres goaltender and if Coach Appert has any say in who is in net this upcoming regular season fine, but if left up to Ruff this is going to be a rocky beginning come October especially if Ruff insists that (G) Georgiev and career AHLer (D) Geertsen have to be in the lineup.

Fantasy hockey player to watch, Utah’s 6′ 4″ (D) “Smash” Simashev had three blocks last night versus (RW) Marner and the Knights and could be a sleeper defenseman that can consistently block. Buffalo Winter will draft a team tonight and at the very least will have this defenseman on the watch list.

  1. I’m sorry to hear that Ruff’s goaltender isn’t very promising. My husband reminds me there was a game in which Georgiev had 50+ saves and shut out the Maple Leafs.

You may have heard that the Leafs have signed G James Reimer to a PTO since Joseph Woll is on personal leave for an indefinite period. Based on what I have read, it seems that Leafs fans are on the fence about his return for a number of reasons. I guess we see what unfolds.

    1. A 50+ save shutout performance is impressive, but hey the sun shines on a dog’s butt at least once in his life.

I did read that (G) Reimer signed a PTO with the Leafs 10 years after he left Toronto and finish the season in San Jose, ironically the Sharks is the other team he played for twice.

I have never been a fan of former players coming back, it just seems so different, so if you went to go play for some other team and now you want to come back. No thanks, I’ll pass.

So, we will see how the goaltending situations in Buffalo and Toronto pan out.

      1. I think it maybe depends on whether the player, in this case goalie James Reimer, was traded away or left voluntarily as a free agent. When Reimer left the Leafs team, it was the former. Return is easier, in my humble opinion, if the player was traded away. Hopefully I’m making some sense.

“The sun shines on a dog’s butt at least once in his life” I’m still laughing over. 🙂

      2. You make sense, some players force a trade, I have no idea what (G) Reimer’s situation was, but I can see welcoming back your player if he was forced to leave in the first place.
