Blues Down Jets

Game Seven coming to Winnipeg

This is not in the rule book

Blues 5 – Jets 2 (Series tied 3-3) No overtime, no empty net goals, just St. Louis scoring four times on 15 SOG during the second period that chased Winnipeg’s goaltender Hellebyck to the bench and the Blues force game seven.

Last night the NHL decided that if your own player touches your goalie first then the opposing team’s player’s interference happens it is not going to be considered interference, who knew?

CALDER CUP PLAYOFFS

The Rochester Americans have advanced to the Calder Cup Quarter Finals (North Division Finals) by sweeping the Syracuse Crunch (3-0) in convincing fashion as goaltender Levi recorded back-to-back shutouts in the final two games.

Leading the AHL regular season in shutouts (7) coupled with his current AHL playoff performances leave little left for goaltender Levi to accomplish in this league and it will be interesting to watch the Americans attempt to advance as Rochester awaits the outcome of their North Division’s #1 Laval vs #4 Cleveland series to determine their next opponent.

  1. Too bad our Marlies lost out in the first round.

I didn’t know that a player who has been on a NHL team roster in the regular season and plays on an AHL team is eligible to play in the Calder Cup playoffs. It makes sense but I just didn’t realize it is possible according to the rules.

    1. Yes, the NHL and AHL have a unique working relationship, it was not that long ago Tampa Bay goaltender Vasilevskiy played for the Marlies as well as Russian RW Nikita Kucherov.

If it helps at all, NHL players that have played a certain number of NHL games have to go through waivers before getting to their AHL affiliate, so any of the other 31 NHL teams can claim the player, so it is a risk to send players down to prevent parent clubs from stocking their AHL affiliate after being eliminated from the NHL playoffs.

And once you are on a team, you are on that team, pre-season, regular season, post-season, whatever game is being played.
