Blanked and Beaten

Florida victorious in Game One

Florida 3 – Edmonton 0 en (Finals Panthers 1-0)  Scoring on their first shot on goal Florida took the quick 1-0 lead, then again early in the second period scored for the 2-0 lead before banging in an empty netter for the 3-0 win and earning their first Finals series lead in three Stanley Cup Finals appearances.

Edmonton may have outshot Florida but the Panthers killed off three Oilers power plays, outhit the Oilers by nearly 30 hits, out blocked, and gave the puck away less as Florida’s goaltender Bobrovsky stopped all 32 Edmonton SOG for the shutout.

Winning the first game of the Finals does not guarantee your team the Stanley Cup, but it does go a long way towards establishing momentum, attitude, and getting within three games of hoisting the silver chalice.

  1. In that third frame the man on my left is wearing a (retro?) Panthers jersey with a design I have never seen before.

It goes without saying that it was an extremely well coached and played confident game by the Florida Panthers and if Edmonton has any chance of taking the next game from Florida, then it will be (at least in part, imho) because they figured out how ineffective they had been when constantly trying to score low on Stonewall Bobrovsky.

Plus the McDavid line was stymied many times over, especially by Barkov, and Edmonton has to figure that out.

Oilers need to get out the WD40.

(I’m tired so I may not be articulating very well, lol.)

    1. Good eye P_g, the man is sporting a 2022-2023 Reverse Retro sweater, in 2009-2011 the Panthers had a “blue” third uniform and this one is suppose to be a take on that, additionally a team named Panthers has no panther anything on the sweater you were questioning about.

Even the announcers on TNT, ABC, ESPN all talk about goaltender Bobrovsky’s ability to cover the bottom of the net and how good at it he is, soooo why the Oilers are not shooting high? In part I believe because at times you do not have time to lift the puck when shooting, the Panthers led by Captain Barkov are a very good defensive team as well as being able to score.

Edmonton has the firepower, they just need to start finding their touch, and they had better do it quickly.

I could not tell by your writing, which is fine, that you were tired, lol
