Oilers 4 Maple Leafs 2
At home where it sounded as if half of the fans were cheering for Toronto and getting scored on 27 seconds into the game the Oilers fell behind 2-0 before scoring a soft goal with about four minutes remaining in the second period to cut the lead to one.

The Maple Leafs defensive corps played with heart as they blocked 16 out of 21 team blocked shots with each defenseman earning at least two blocked shots and up until Edmonton’s first score Leafs netminder Jones looked near impregnable.
Some nights your offensive players hit crossbar and posts all game and some players shoot pucks that the announcers assure us have “eyes” that allowed them to get through a chaotic maze of players, in any event Edmonton has as a new team record with 11 straight wins.

The NHL winning streak record is 17 wins courtesy of Pittsburgh during the early 1990s, Edmonton has a realistic opportunity but six or seven more consecutive wins begins at home tonight versus the Kraken.

Buffalo donning their brawny black & red sweaters host Chicago tonight if everything can get shoveled out and if required the Blackhawks can arrive by snowmobiles, then securing a victory the Sabres will reach an 11-11-1 home record.
p.s. game is postponed

Thanks BW for the Leafs game blocked shot stats and the commentary about Martin Jones and the offensive plays. I would bet 50/50 that the Oilers make it and pass the Pens record from back in the day because after watching last night’s matchup I am very impressed with EDM. McDavid and others seem to be on a mission.
Interestingly, and I commented elsewhere about this, there have been a noteable number of NHL games recently in which leads were lost by good teams, a good example being a few nights ago when Colorado, Florida and Vancouver lost third period leads against Anaheim, Montreal and Columbus, respectively. This league never fails to surprise us with the unexpected.

You are welcome, it was not as if the Leafs were not trying as some would have us believe.
I do not know if Mr. Kane and the boys can achieve the record but it is interesting to follow and watch them build up the wins.
There are players/coaches and announcers who tell us that an early 2-0 lead is dangerous or the worst lead to have psychologically and that nothing evaporates quicker in sports than a two goal lead, technically a 1-0 goal lead is lost more, and a dozen seasons ago a statistical study revealed that on average NHL teams were losing 2-0 leads 39% of the time and Florida ridiculously lost 2-0 leads at a 77% clip that season.
